Nirjhara

Beyond Bali’s busier southern coast, the landscape becomes quieter and intensely green. Here in Tabanan, among rice fields, coconut palms, a winding river and natural cascades, Nirjhara offers a secluded retreat close to Tanah Lot temple and within driving distance of Canggu. Its name means “waterfall” in Sanskrit—a fitting expression of a resort shaped around the movement and sound of water.

Contemporary architecture settles gently into the landscape, combining reclaimed timber, natural Indonesian stone and traditional sirap roofs. Interiors favour earthy colours, coconut panelling, hand-carved wood and woven furniture created by local artisans, complemented by contemporary Indonesian art.

Accommodation ranges from elevated Canopy Suites with rooftop sunset decks to expansive river and jungle pavilions. Selected villas feature private plunge or infinity pools overlooking forest, rice fields and hidden cascades. Two-bedroom pool villas offer generous living and dining areas for families or friends, while the 600 m² Residence extends across two levels beside the river.

At Ambu, the archipelago’s culinary heritage is interpreted through farm-to-table ingredients sourced around the region. Rice-field, forest and waterfall views accompany the experience, while the Pool Bar serves fresh juices, Indonesian cocktails and light dishes beside the main pool. Bespoke private dinners can be designed around individual tastes and special occasions.

Arranged around a reflection pool, The Retreat draws on traditional Balinese techniques and island-sourced natural products. Four treatment rooms, Finnish saunas, a Yoga Shala and fitness centre support a restorative stay.

Days may unfold through yoga, meditation and private cinema screenings, or beyond the resort with guided cycling, surfing, horse riding and journeys across Tabanan. Nirjhara’s defining quality is its immersion in a quieter Bali, where thoughtful design, local craftsmanship and untamed nature form one harmonious experience.
