Capella Ubud

Hidden within the rainforest of Keliki, north of Ubud, Capella Ubud is an imaginative tented retreat designed by architect Bill Bensley. Inspired by the adventurous spirit of European explorers in the 1800s, the camp combines theatrical detail, curated antiques and refined comfort while remaining remarkably discreet within its natural surroundings. No tree was removed during its construction.

The resort comprises just 22 one-bedroom tents and one two-bedroom lodge, each with a private pool and views across the forest or Keliki Valley. Spacious decks with daybeds, copper bathtubs and indoor and outdoor showers create a close connection with the landscape, while dedicated Capella Culturists personalise each guest’s stay.

Mads Lange celebrates Indonesian and international cuisine through seasonal produce and flavours inspired by the historic spice route. At Api Jiwa, chefs prepare an intimate Asian-inspired tasting menu over fire, while The Mortar and Pestle serves refreshments beside the 20-metre heated pool. Evenings may continue around the campfire with silent films, toasted marshmallows and jungle sounds.

Auriga Wellness offers bespoke treatments aligned with the lunar cycle, traditional Balinese therapies and spiritual cleansing rituals. Facilities also include three spa tents, a 24-hour gym, yoga, aerial fitness, jungle hikes and mountain biking.

Cultural experiences are central to the stay, from Keliki village visits and rice-paddy walks to Balinese dance, calligraphy and temple rituals. Younger guests can join creative Little Stars activities, while the two-bedroom lodge suits families and friends. Capella Ubud’s defining quality is its wonderfully original sense of adventure—an intimate, artful camp where sophisticated hospitality becomes part of the rainforest rather than simply overlooking it.
